The above remark is true of nothing so much rb of photography, Certainly the old order hag changed as regards the method of producing and the article produced, Wo look up old photographs taken say 15 years ago or oven less, and compare them with the artistic productions of the present day and the change is immediately apparent, The science of photography lias literally advanced by " leaps and be indfl" in the last decade, A fow years ago we paid more for a dozen indifferent carte dc visit® than wo do to-day for tho same number of highly finished beautifully produced cabinets. There is as mucli difference between tho dagucrro typos of our grandmothers' day and the photographs of 10 years back as between these 10h year-old photographs and the artistio aim-pictures of to day, Thero is no firm in tbeso Sodpß| lands which keeps better pace with tho times in regard to photography than that of Mr W. Kinsey, of Lambton Quay, Wellington. It has been said by eminent art-critics—Rußkin amongst them—that there can never be any artistio merit in a photograph. This statement is entirely disproved .by an examination of tho work turned out from Mr Kinsey's studio. Light and shade, pose, draping, effective scenic' arrangement and artistic technique m just as much studied aB mere operating, developing and retouching All these combined with skilful manipula* tion and the latest instruments result in tho production of the delightlul pictures we see turned out from Mr Kinsey's atelifa. Mr Kinsey's charges are also marvels of cheapness and wo would recommend a perusal of his advertisement in another column before deciding where to go to bo j photographed, As everyone is photo- Jm graphed now-a-days the question of lit cheapness combined with excellence is a matter for consideration when one has decided to undergo the important operation of being "taken."
