[by hjipihe,] GKEYTOWK V r-AHIATUA, A very interesting match was played as above on the Grey town Recreation reserve last Saturday, The weather was very'hofc, but otherwise a splendid day. The matoh commenced at closo on ten o'clock in the morning and was played all day, although only one innings was counted. A largo number of spectators woro present, and splendid play on both sides exhibited, The home team provided luncheon at tho Forester's Arms Hotel for the visitors, as well as conveyances, The mat oh resulted in a win for tho visitors by 35 runs on the first innings The bowling honors for Pahiatua in tlio first innings were divided between D. F. Howat, V 7. Chambers and O. Williams, and for the local team W, Judd.E, Udy and G, Hawke. The Mowing were the scores:—
Greytown went in for a second inn- ! ings, and had secured 127 runs for tbo loss of 7 wioketa when time was called, W, Jadd makiog the splendid score of 52. The third and final matoh between the Masterton and Greytown teams will probably be played on Saturday week, Several criekoters think this match should be arranged to take place in Masterton to give enthusiasts here a chance of witnessing it, The teams have met twice this season at Greytown, each being victorious on one occasion, so that the next matoh will be a highly interesting one. If played here Masterton would be represented by a far stronger team than otherwise.
Elder, who made his debut on Friday last, will be % tower of strength to the team, and young Dash, the brilliant bat of the Homewood team, is at present in Masterton, and is to bt stationed in the district.
As regards a pitch for the ma'ch, on Saturdays tbo Farmer's ground ia the
centre of the Oval is always available, and I understand with a little watering and rolling it could bo made, in very fair condition. The Maslerton 'l'radeamena Cricket Olub meet the Eketahuna team on Thursday next, on tbo Park Oval. Flay will commence at 1 p.m. sharp, The following will represent the Tradesmen : J. L, Leeks,«.
