Sinco then I met with an accident which laid me up for about six months, This put mo back considorI ably and for some time afterwards I was unablo to get regular work, or to earn enough to keep my family. Being pressed by Mr J, J, Smith and others I was compelled to file. The debtor, being sworn, in reply to the D.O.A. said, that the debts in tho statement of liabilities had been mostly incurred while in business, and had been running on for the list six years. Tho business did not pay consequently he got into debt over it. Mrs Wagg's claim was for money lont to him about four years ago, He sold out of tho business about two years ago, he was then a good deal behind. He met with the accident about Octobor 1891, The work he obtained after tho accident was odd jobs and of ton ho did not mako a pound a week. For the last three or four months he had been regularly em< ployed at Mr Muir's at 9s a day. Lately he had not beon able to pay off any of his old dobts. Ho had eleven children, two of them wero working, tbe boy getting one pound a week. J.J. Smith sued him for L 2183 6d and he had got notice from others that he would be sued unless the money was paid, He did not see his way to pay these accounts and thougb't it better to filo. baok rent to pay, a man had quito enough to do. It appeared that the millstono that was round bis neok when the accident happened was the whole causo of the trouble.
Mrs Wagg: Whom did you got the money to file ? The debtor said he got it from Mr Barley, and Mr Muir had undertaken to pay it out of his wages. Mrs Wagg iff you spend eight or nine shillings a week in drink you can never pay jour way ! Mr Graham said he was sure, considering the trouble tho debtor had had, and his largo family, every creditor would sympathise with him but for the fact that he was in the habit of spending his money in drink, ThellO.A, sdd it was a pity the debtor had not tiled two years ago. There was really no estate, and ho did not see what thoy could do other than take the ordinary course, Mr Graham said be would give him his disehargo without opposition if lie tinned teetotaller, Tho meeting then adjourned,
