For Beveral years past, settlers have found considerable difficulty in raising good crops of cabbago and cauliflower owing to tho attacks during the summer tnonthß, of small caterpillars or grubs that seem to ba prevalent in every dislriot where these usoful vegetables are attempted to bo grown, Various remsdies have been tried for destroying the pestc, somo with very indifferent success. In America it lias been found that there is no iusecticide so efficacious as tar water, with the advantage that plants are not in tho least injured by tho application, for tho odour is washed off by tho first shower, To make the tarwater, put a quart or two of common coal-tar in an old tiu or wooden pail, and Bet it on the bottom of a barrel or other tight vessel, tbon fill up with water. Let it stand out in the sun for a day or two, and tho water will become impregnated with the odour of tar, and ready for ÜBO, Apply in the evening, with a watering pot with a fine rose, in order to distribute the liquid over the entire head of the cabbago. When the water has been used, fill up the barrel again, for two quarts of tar will servo to make a number of barrels of tar-water strong enough to kill the cabbage worms, As there aro several breeds of this cabbage pest, you may have to apply the tar-water as each appears j but in dry weather a little extra watering of the plants will prove very beneficial, -Exchange,
