A deaperato encounter belwoen a dog and a shark tool: placo at about halfpast five en .the 20th inst., in the Auckland harbour, off the Bobson street wharf. The dog, who was swimming about, catching a stick which its master threw into the witter, was attacked by a small shark, The fish turned to bite, whon the dog gave n sudden bound and gripped the shark immediately behind the head. Suddenly they both disappeared, but in a few seconds the doe; oame to the surface with a large piece of the shark in its mouth.
