Metropolitan Jockey Olub Conference.

At tho Conference of Metropolitan Jockey Clubs this morning, the following delegates wero present :~ Wessrs Perciv.il (Auckland R, Club), Franklyn (Canterbury Jockey Club), Kewman (Wellington R.C.), Uiguio (Wanganui Jockey Club), Ormoiid (Tarnnaki Jockey Club), Gasquoino (Nelson and Groymouth Jockey Clubs), Griffiths (Marlborough Racing Club), Ormoud and Captain Russell (Hawke's Bay Jockey Club), Captain Russell was elected Chairman,and Mr Letters were read TroiTEßjlain Russell to Mr Miles in reply to tho deputation of' West Const Clubs and from Captain Russell to the Colonial Treasurer concerning tbe circular re totalisator tax.
Captain Eussell addressed the Conference at some length on the subjeot of the proposed N.Z. Jockey Club, poiuting out the many advantages that would accrue to racing through Biich an institution and regretted that owing to the action of some of the clubs he was compelled to ask leave to withdraw the moiion standing in his name, Leave was granted. It waa then moved by Mr Oraiond and carried, "That it is desirable that country clubs should have somo voice in the Conference," and he would move at the next sitting "that country clubs should have representation at future Conferences and that nil Metropolitan Clubs be asked to mi delegates to the next Conference with full power to act in this matter," Mr Ormond also gave notice that the Hawko'sßay Jockey Club should draft proposals for giving effect to the foregoing motion, Captain Russell moved and it was carried that at future conferences no dolegato shall represent more than one club,
Captain Eussell's motion that at future conferences no salaried official should sit as delegate was uegatived, Wanganui, Wellington, and TalrMi voting for the motion, and Auckland, Canterbury, Greymouth, Marlborough and Nelson against it. _ Captain Russell introduced the question putting down the "walking totali6ator,"anditwasmovedbyMrGritliths and carried: "That the attention of 1 Metropolitan Clubs bo directed 101 rules of racing 25 and clause 6 of rule 154, under which takers as well as layers of odds are liable to disqualification, apd that it was desirable to take stringent action to enforco these yules,"
It was moved by MrWanklyn " That rule 22 re totalisator bo struck out and that the following words be added to rule 14 after the word' commission ' in the second line ' less amount of Shte tax' the proposed amendment to take effect at the close of the current racing season," An amendment was moved by Mr Ormondand carried " That it is no l desirable to lay down any law binding tbo future action of the Conference." Ou the motion of Mr Hipgie it was resolved " That it was desirable to publish a N.Z.- Stud Book (under the authority and supervision of metropolitan clubs) and that metropolitan clubs be invited to furnish the next Conference with their views upon what lines such [iiiblication should be prepared, and also what steps should be taken to defray tbe expense ol publication.
It waß resolved that the Conference Btand adjourned to a date in July to be fixed by the Chairman, mjfigton Trotting Club,
Summer Meeting.
The Summer Meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club wis held yesterday at Island Bay, about COO people being present.
