The Pahiatua Athletic Sports held yestorday were highly successful, Upwards of 1000 peoplo were present, The day was exceedingly hot and the ground in good running order. The Committee worked woll and the various items on the programme were sent off punctually, The handicap was'won ImCrosbie, and was grandly contested in each event. The Hunters' Competition brought out seventeen entries and several horsesjumped remarkably well, The Band was to hnvo been on the ground, but at the last moment made some demand on the Committee, which they would not concede to and the Band refused to play. A strong feeling exists, some holding by tho Band others by the Committee,
The amount taken at the gates was £35 Bs, Protests havo been ontered agalnßt the winners of tho Handicap and Mile Run.
The Ball held in the evening was a very successful and well attended affair. The following are tho results in the principal ovenfs:—Maiden Race.-Seven started, Crosbie 1, H. Knight 2, Clarke 3. Handicap.— 9 acceptors, First Event—Crosbie (6yds) 1, S, Clark (2yds) 2, Clark (6yds) 3. Second Event-(22oyds) Croabio (13yds) 1, S. Clark (4yds) 2, E, E, Smith (syds) 3, Third Event -(44oyds) 8. Clark (6yds) 1, Oros» bie (35yds) 2, Griffiths (25yds) 8. High Jump-F, E, Perry (4ft B}in) 1, Griffiths and A, MeCanllo tie, Throwing Cricket Ball—U. "Williams 1. Mile Run-Clav (50yds) 1, F. Wyoth (sor) 2, Payne (60yds) 3. Mile Walk-O. Knight (60yds) 1, Orr (121 yds) 2, Holberg passed second but was disqualified. Maiden Wrestling-Buckingham 1, Troy 2. 220 yds Hurdles—N. Bodmin (12yds) 1, MoKittrick (6yds) 2, Hunters' Competition—F. E. Perry's" Duke" 1, Q. Ross' " Mangamako " 2, A. McCardle's" Puketao" 3.
