Thursday is now the recognised day for sport in Masterton. and the Park presents Quite a festive appearanoe every half holiday. More interest is being taken in crioket than for years past, and the knights of the willow 'are just waking up and going in for praotice, Two rather important matches were played on tho Oval I yesterday, and several hundred enthusiasts witnessed the game from various positions in.the Park,
The Tradesmen were severely defeated by Carterton, but the gallant W.F.O.A. team once more upheld the honour of thocHM(?jcoming off victorious. in against Tradesmen y Carterton. The visitors went in first, and with their first two men (Booth and Benall) knocked up no less than sixty-two runs between them, MoKenzie waß the only other to enter double figures and played a fine innings for eleven runs, The team was not disbanded before the very respectable total of 106 runs had been made,
The Tradesmen then went in, but tbeir wiokets fell fast and the excellent bowling of B»ft|j(atid Darrooh. The former was Wd on 1 the wioket, and no Btand was made against him. Welch booked up ten, being by fat the highest scorer. The total only reaching 89, they were wain sent in, and made a more oreditable display. Malcolm played a splendid game, registering 83 not out, and treated the fielders to some leather-hunting. Leeka also made some wonderful hits, and scored 2G before being bowled.
