Hawera, January 12,1«98. We held our fortnightly stock sale at Haweia on Wednesday, the 11th inst. when we had a good entry of both sheep and oattle. There was a larjjo attendance of would-be purchasers, but as the reserves on the, stook in many instances were higher than they were prepared to go to, several lines had to return home unsold, We quoto: 2J to 8 year steers & 16s to£s; 18 months to 2 year steers £8 is 10 U 9s; 0 to 18 months steers £2 lis to G8 lis, fat cows U 5a to £4 Os, store cows £8 18s tn £4 2s, 2 to 2i year heifers, £8 to £3 Da, 18 months to 2 year heifers £2 Bs to JGB, ewes and lambs, 9s Id per head.
] Mr F, H, Wood reports of tho Stock Sale held by him at the Taratahi yards on Thursday as follows :- All classes of stock were represented, the yards being fairly well filled, but as only about a third of tho stock yarded bad been advertised the attendance of buyers was not so large as usual. Vendors would find it de- , cidedly to their advantage to forward particulars of entries sufficiently early to allow of their being properly ad-, verted. Owing presumably to the uncertainty of tho continuation rf tho dry weafchor, competition, especially for sheep, was not so keen as of late, prices being somewhat easier, and quoted as under:—Sheep: Fat wethers up to 12s; fat owes, light weights, 9s 9d; lambs, woolly, 5s 7d lo7s Cd; store wethers, 9s 7d to lis; store ewes, Gs to 8s 9d; old culls, Is 7d to 3s Cd; fat lambs, 9s, Cattle: Calves, 29s to 31s; 2 year old steers and heifers, 48s to 555; dairy cows, UtoL6 7sGd; fat cows, light, L<l to U 16s; 8 year old steers, hi.
