CORRESPONDENCE.
The Land Board. (lO THE EDIIOn WAIRARAPA DAILY \ TIMES.) Bl Sm.-Had I not been a journalist iSßtttaction might follow your stateam suspected of being a ajHHbbor or an abettor of landjobtgSm. There is not a word of truth in Kite statement. Ido not speculate io and have that abhoronoo for those who do that would have been well for tho Wairarapa had you imitated—even for»cook. Yours, etc, Fred Pmani. (Extract Wellington Evening Posl, January 7.) Under any circumstances, his appointraont to tho position would bo nn improper one, but when the attitude which tho paper for tho utterances of which he is responsible has tabu up in regard to tho Forest Bo- ■ serve Special Settlement Association scandal is taken into consideration, his appointment stands out as an,act of absolute indecency. It ia needless to enquire whether tho influence of Mir Pibam and his paper was mod to induce the to remove the reservation, in or!^§ lv(110 " 1C Association, by privftto arrangement, a valuable block of land which tho publio behoved to be securely locked up. That land was so Yitfaablo that it was proved in evidence the other day that the shares, on which 29s is paid-np, arc regarded as worth from £2o to £4O each, even though a misdemeanour has to be committed, by making a lake declaration, at that price. Whether Mr Pirani was or is an original shareholder, wc do not know, but we arc aware that he took a warm interest in tho formation of tho Association, and it is but reasonable to suppose that the Government consulted their leading political sujmter in the district before parting with of the Forest Reserve.
