SATURDAY. DECEMBER 31, 1892.
Being the extended hub of the Waibarapa Daily, with whioh it is JDENIIOAIi
Ir we .were to wish our readers as much happiness during the coming year as they have enjoyed during the. one now closing, they would scarcely thank us, " Man never ie, bat always to ie, blest." Still the wish is as reasonable a one as could well be im»
agimd. Tho conditions of existence, if wn exoept misgovernment, have been exceptionally-favourable during the past twelve months. The price of "took and produce has given an assured income to all station owners and far* meiß who have managed their affairs with ordinary prudence. They have 1 had spending monej, and although 'he; bave been somewhat afraid to launch out into extensive improved raenta, they have employed a reasonable amount of lahour snd the necessary consequence, a fairly brisk circulation of money in the community has occasioned a prosperity whioh has been most welcome.
In Ibis prosperity (he centres of Dopiiltitinn have shared, From Featherston to Woodville there has been a decided revival of commercial activity. There is said to be 'some slight check mthe rapid growth of Pahjatua just now, but this is pro* bably conducive to its future health, as even in fast growing towns an occasional interval of rest is advantageous. No centre in the AVairarapa has displayed encli marked signs of progress An Mastcrton. "We do not believe that any previous year of trade in this town bas given anything liko the large returns of the past twelve months, It is an open secret amongst commercial men here that business has recently developed by leaps and bounds, quite fulfilling, the most sanguine expectations of those who like ourselves have been wont to express faith in the future of the town. Both town and country may be fairly satisfied'to, retain coming year, the measure of- pw|erity which they have been of late enjoying, but it is quite possible that they may in 1893 find even bottor things than in 1892, -New enterprises which hava been started or - are under way will tell more in the ooming yjaar than , in the, closing one. Tho Waira-r rapa. is on an upward grade and may for some years to wme enjoy aa uninterrupted careejt of prosperity. Those who hafe passed throughthe dwk days, '
gone Yiy,; .when ■ tbey with their fellows suffered adversity, may now he expected to be rewarded for any privations and discomforts which they Have previously undergone, Putting on one side misgovHrnment, ; wliioh after all cannot arrest though 11 may impair tlie general prosperity of settlers, we can look forward with hope to the future and with a confidence which wa have on many prevoua similar anniversaries been'iinablo to entertain, wish our friends ' / A HAPPI NEW YEAR,
