CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

Meeting .of Direotors, ■ ■ ; A meeting of the Direotors the Wairarapa Caledonian Society waa held on Saturday, 21th December, at 8.80 p.m. : in the Oluti Hotel, Mr Hubert Cameron (President) in the chair. . r About 15 direotors were present. i.£ The minutes of the previous meeting TT were road.. The following handicappers were appointed : Messrs W. D. Watson, R. Gray and P. O'Connor. The Secretary mentioned that there was a probability of Mr Smith sending bis boys to compete in the Highland dancing end Mr Lowes proposed that a cordial invitation be seut to Mr Smith to come himself and bring his boys, seconded by Mr Gray and carried unanimously. o The question of the log-sawing and hewing competition was next con« • Bidered. Mr Alex McLeod statod that the sawmill proprietors of tho district J would subscribe amongst thorn about | £G if tbe Society would subsidise the amount to make it LIO in prizo money to be distributed. It was unanimously resolved to accede to Mr MoLeod's suggestion, and Messrs Heron and McLeod were appointed a 4 sub-committee to take charge of the log-sawing and hewing contests. Prizes were allotted as follows ;-2 . ~. men competition: Sawing, first, L 4; Sffgecond, LI 10s. One man: Sawing, ' first, LI 10s; second, 10s; Hewing, first, L2, second 10s. The events are to commence at 2 p.m. For the general races the following starters were appointed:—Messrs Muir, Elkins and Walker, and thoy were instructed to carry out the rules strictly and infliot the usual penalties, The meeting then adjourned until Saturday, 31st inst,, in the meantime the Ground Committee to see that everything is in proper order.
