MASTEBTON-FBIDAY,

.(Before Colonel Roberto, RIM.) James Riley, who was charged with being drunk in Qneen-Btreec, Masterton, on Thursday, admitted the offence, waß convicted, and discharged. • Police v Alfred Potter. The police asked in this case for a sufficient order to bo to compel the defendant to maintain bis wife and family, who were dependant upon charitable aid.

Anastusid Potter deposed that she was the wife ot Alfred Potter and that there were sin children, the oldest girl being 15 years old, and the youngest child 2 years and 9 months; Her hustand had not provided sufficient maintenance. People bad told her that hejwas working. During the last'four months she had reoeived M sa, or about five shillings a week, and most of. this was payment enforced by the police. She was at present receiving charitable aid, and now asked the Court to make an order assuring support from her husband. The witness hero entered into details of the hardship which she stated she suffered under through her husband's conduct. She would like to get £1 a week from her busband.

Sergeant Mcirdla- said that he understood the man was earning £1 a week. lie though'. 15a a week might baa fair order.

His Worship made an order at the rate of 12s 6d a week, aignfying that it could.be extended, if the complainant could subsequently prove that defendant was earning sufficient to justify such a higher payment. ■ Police v, J, O.
