The polico aw finding great difficulty in get'iug evidenco in the charges of permitting gambling, broucht against Mr Ellingham, of the Occidental Hotel, but arc determined to proceed to extreme measures. One witness was arrested, and two others would have been arrested in JJunedin, but at the Inst moment they agreed to come hack.
