THEATRE ROYAL.

The Steen-SmithCombination, The last of the series of entertainments given by the Steen.Bmilh combination in Masterton, took place last night at the Theatre Eoyal, and was of a highly interesting oharaoter. Madam Stoen gave an exhibition of thought-reading and mind tolpgrajfy similar to that already doscribed in our columns, aftor which the Professor gave an expose of spiritualism, a number of the most celebrated and re* markablo tricks practised by mediums being shown andoxplained. Amongst other things the Davenport Bros*, rope tying marvels were shown to be aimplioity itself j the "spiriMiand" and rapping business was exposed as a hollow fraud; and the "BpiriUipe" demonstrated to be nothing Ift- a combination of chemicals.

A particularly vigilant committee consisting of Messrs O. Haines, D, Mcintosh, R, J. Malcolm, A. Hathaway, G. Heron aud E. E. Chamberlain watched matters closely on behalf of the audience, bat were unable to detect any by-play, or in any way embarrass Madarho or Professor Steen. After the Bleens had concluded, Mr Oscar Smith gave auotlier olever yentriloquial performance, The Company's stay in Masterton has not been along one,- but we believe, that neither 'the Steens or the public are sorry tbey.came. The next place visited by thorn will be Carterton, and We H'isb theicsuccess.
