It is reportod that Mount Tongariro has again become active, sending, forth steam, mud, and kouldoia in large quantities,
Death of a well-known Maori Chief. (By Telegraph—Press Association). Wellington, Wednesday, Nows has been received of the sudden death of Taonui Hikaka, a wellknown Chief of the Ngatimuniapoto. He was a very large land owner, dwelling upon his ancestral lands in Upper Mokau. His defection completed tho breaking down of tho isolation which had boen created in tho King Country, He was about fifty years of ago, and was descended in a direct lino from Hotoroa, Captain of tho Tainui canoe.
