Featherston Road Board.
Ordinary Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the ftathereton Road Board was held last Saturday, there being present Messrs Matthews (chairman) J. Donald, Harris, Nix and Bidwill, 4 ' FINANCE. ' f*^ The Treasurer's report showed a bank overdraft of L 274 5a lid. The rate collector reported the rates collected at L 2160. Accounts amounting to LB6O were passed for payment. COBBEBPONDENCE, Correspondence outward was read.
Correspondence inwards :-Au account for drainage on Ward's line "* with a letter of explanation trom Mr Colemau Phillips, It was resolved to let this matter stand over tillanexplanation be received from Mr Philip,
From Mr W. MoLaren, asking permission to erect a gate on the Martin-borough-Pahaoa Road between his property and that of Mr Tully. This matter was left in the hands of the warden for that district.
From 0. Phillips re Clay mad through Mr Wathaa's property. From J, H. Baker re schedulo of accrued thirds, from J. H.Baker re the surveying ol the road through seotion 71, Moroltto the property of Mr Jas. Donald. From Messrs W. J. Buok, J. Phelps, and C. Ed. Kolly, asking for ; the removal (on certain conditions) of some gates orected by Mr Cole on i Lucas road. Mr Buck complained of loss to his stock caused by those obstructions. It was decided that th ß Committee, with Mr Assistant Surveyor Thompson, visit thoplaoeand investigate.
From Ur A. D.Patterson objecting ou behalf of his clients (tho Meßßra Bicknell; to the removal of agate on the road through their property to that of Mr J. Donald in Seotion 71, Moroa.
It was resolved to forward a copy of the letter to iIrW.G. Beard, tho Hoards solicitor.
The Overseer's report was read and adopted.
Considerable discussion took place re the Olay Creek road, Itwasdecided that tbo Board's Overseer visit the locality and see what had beta be done. ,"• Ke the work on Stony Greek road Mr Harris thought it best to call for tenders .The matter was left in the handsof Mr Harris and the Overseer. ™ •i t , er ms read from Mr Colemanfliillipa offering to widen Mason's bridge on the Featherston-Martiu-borough road four feet, at bis own expense in order to allow a freer paßi aage of water,
Mr Mason stated that tho bridge was of sufficient width, but the creok over which it was built needed enlarging.
Tho matter was left in the hands of T the Overseer,
.Mr Donald stated that the bad state of the Ward's line drain was damaging his property, and asked whether he would he allowed to deepen the present drain, which is not in tho right place or whether ho would have to wait till the drain was shifted,
The Chairman thought he bad better doepen the present drain other., wise he would wait an indefinite ti%. It was resolved on tbo motion of Mrßidwill that, Mr Coleman Phillips be asked to write to the Surveyor General stating that he would offer no obstiuction to surveyors on Phillips line,
Mr Phillips wrote that he would shortly remove the gate on Phillips , line complained of by Mr Gundy, Mr Cundy, who was present, stated that one day while driving some Btook along tlio lino he put up some Blip burs which he forgot to take away, The next day he received a letter from Mr Phillips objecting to the obstruction, Mr Cundy immediately removed the bars and would havo no more of tho matter had not Mr Phillips erected a gate in the Bame placo shortly afterwards. The gate iu no way interfered with Mr Cundy but be did not like to see Mr Phillips acting in this arbitrary manner, Hence his complaint. Mr Cundy then thanked tho Board for the trouble- * they had taken in tho matter,
With reference to the drainago% Ward's lino the Board was of opinion that the rates collected—^63l4s Idwere sufficient for repairs only, and if the settlors wished the work done ef* feotively they must raise a loan. Mr Greenaway's tender for metalling near Kahautara bridge at 29s per chain was accepted. It was resolved that the collector be empowered to sue for outstanding rates not paid by tho Ist of January, 1893. ' " REQUIREMENTS OF WARDENS. No, 7 asked that the track to Mr Olliver'shecloaredas it was almost impassable, It was decided that tho Warden call for tenders for the work. "•
Before the close of the meeting the Chairman made some remarks respecting the Atkinson Memorial Fund, fle did not consider the Board in a position to contribute, but thought it would be well to canvass for subscriptions,
