GREYTOWN MAYORAL ELECTION.
Considerable interest and excitement was manifested in this election, which took place yesterday. During the whole day vehicles were to be seen conveying electors to the polling booth, Shortly after six o'clock in tbo ovening tho returning officer (Mr A, L, Wcbstor) declared tho numbor to be as follows:—Wood, Frederick Henry, 71; Udy, William, 38. Majority for Mr Wood, 38,
Mr Wood came forward and in a few well ohosen remarks thanked the electors for returning him and al3o bis committee. He had known Mr Udy for eighteen years and lie was suro that he would not bear him (Mr Wood) any ill feeling. He hoped that they would, as before, work amicably together, tad that as Mayor and Councillor tlmy would do their best to further the interests of tho township. He felt that the thanks of the ratepayers were due to Mr It, A. Wakeiin, the retiring Mayor, who. had spent a groat deal of time and trouble, and had done all in. his power for the good of Grey town. Ho was sorry that Mr Wakeiin was net presont, so that be could personally received the thanks due to him.
Mr Udy expressed his gratitudo to those who had voted for him. He thought that, considering that Mr Wood had commenced the contest with a requisition, he (Hie speaker) had a very fair number in his favour. He concluded his remarks with a vote Returning Officer,
