WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

Annual Statutory Meeting.

. The Annual Statutory Meeting of the TVairarapa North County Council was held at noon to-day, there being present Crs D. Guild, Groves, Handyside, Smith, Cookburn-Hood and Von Redin,

The Clerk (Mr F. G. Moore) explained that the first business would be the election of a chairman.

Cr D. Guild proposed and Or (Jocli-burn-Hood seconded, that Cr Handyside be Chairman for the ensuing term.

Cc Handjside declined to stand as he lived so far away. He would propose that Cr Von Redin be Chairman. Cr Cockbnrn-Hood seconded. Cr Guild said as his candidate refused to stand, he would propose Cr W. H. Beetham as Chairman. Cr Groves seconded. Cr Von Redin said he should like, with the permission of bis nominators to withdraw in favour of Cr Bsetham. He thought the general impression had been that Cr Beetham would not stand againOr Oockburn-Hood said he had also been of that opinion. Cr Beetham was then unanimously olectedChairman for the ensuing year. Cr Bandyside was elected Chairman of the meoting; Cr Beetham being -absent. • -WORKS AND FINANCE. On'the motion of Cr Von Redin, seconded by Cr Coekburn-Hood, tho whole Council was appointed, three to form a quorum, ' BEI'HESENTATIVES, Crs Stuekey, Beetham and Cock-burn-Hood were appointed to represent the Council on 'tho Wairavapa District Hospital Board. Cr Beetham was appointed to represent the Council on the United District Charitable Aid Board, Cr W. 11. Beetham was appointed as the Council's representative on the Wellington Benevolent Trust. Tho following gentlemen wero elected to represent the County on tho North Wairarapa Benevolent Trust, viz,Crs Beetham and Stuekey and Messrs R. D. Dagg and R. M. Galloway. GENERAL BUSINESS, Mr John Wingatewroto requesting to bo allowed to fall the road line leading to his property at Alfredton and asking to be recouped at the rate of 2os per aore, the samo terms as | granted to Mr Gird wood, The appli-j was granted, Cr Handyaide wrote, calling the! Council's attention to the bad state of the road over tho Ohonga hills. Cr flandyside explained, tbat at the request of tho Engineer he had put on two men. They could keep on working until tli'e Engineer inspected the place. •It was deoided t hat necessary repairs be made.' Or Handyside said a sew boat was required at the Ohonga .Ferry. The coßt would be about £l2.

It was resolved that a new boat be obtained.

A letter from tho manager of tho Annedalo station was received, drawing attention to the bad state of the roads on the Manawa Flats.

It was pointed out that tbo state ol tho funds would uot permit of anj further repaira at tbc present time. Mr A. Burling wrote directing the Council's attention to tho bad state ol the road from bis property, = •■'Or Smitli ejcplftiued that the worl

It was resolved that driving fees bo handed to permanent roadmen who impound Btnok, OABTLB HILI/ROAD, It was resolved to contribute £lO towards repairs on the Castle Hill lioad on the understanding that the Alfredton Hoad Boferd supplement the amount £1 for £l, to be charged to tho Alfredton separate account. Tho Council then rose.
