FEATHERSTON ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly mooting of the Featherstonßoad Board was held on there being present Messrs Wjj, Matthews (Chairman), J. Donald, Harris, Hume, Nix,' Bidwill, and Martin. The Treasurer's report showed a . bank overdraft of £92 2s 2d. Accounts amounting to £IBO odd were passed ior payment, and it was resolved that a grant of £1 be made to Mr Riddiford for work done by him. The meeting then went into committee. On resuming business, correspondence inwards was lead from Mr M. Gaskin, of Martinborougb, asking for permission to put a pipounder the road in front of his houso at Martinborough. The request was granted, From Mr M. Gaskin, contractor for the metalling of Weld-street, Waibengn, asking that the time for completion be deferred as the gravel pit was under water.- This waß also granted. From the Waiohine River Board, asking for a subsidy on aocount of the river works protecting the roads. Mr 'l'. Parr, mailman of the Lower wrote, slating that on account of the disgraceful state of the Pahaoa track he had lost a valuable horse. He desired compensation, but the claim waß not entertained, Mr Benton wrote, suggesting a plan by which the surplus water from"tho road drain, which was damaging Mr J. 3. Cundy's land, might bo turned into a drain on his land and provide water for his cattle. It would not post the Board moro than £O. Mr J. 8. Cundy wroto, requesting that certain gates and other obstructions on Phillips' line bo removed, Mr Buck wroto, asking that somo gates on Lucas road be removed, bb ho found it difficult to get cattle through.' Buolt, .6100 for making a road from Lucas road to Mr Buck's and £IOO for making a road from Mr Buck's to his own property, On the motion of Mr J, Donald the matter was left for consideration of the Works Committee. Elgar wrote requesting an alteration in tlio Clay Creek road, On tbo motion of Mr Didwill this was left in the hands oi the Chuirman and Mr Harris, Mr Harrison wrote requesting a road to his land through that of Mr Anderson.- Mr Anderson was in attendance to explain matters. It was decided that tbo Surveyor-General he communicated with. The meeting was then adjourned for lunch.

On resuming business furtbor correspondence was read. Mr C. JLlgar wrote complaiuing of the disgraceful state of Awhea road. The road was not accessible from eithrr end and had two wire fences across it. This mutter was left in the hands of Mr Uairis. Mr Johnßeal, tho Board's Banger, wrote asking that somoone bo appointed ranger in his place, while he is absent from the district for a few montla The Board did not consider it necessary that anyone be appointed to take Mr Deal's place. On the motion of Mr Martin Ml' Beat was granted six weeks leavo of absence.

Mr Coleman PLilhjja attended to request tlio appointment of a Committee to consider the complaint from Mr Joseph Cundy, re sui plus water. Mr Cundy asked that the mutter be seen to as soon as possible us ho was sufleringgreatloss, ACommitteewas appointed,consisting of Messrs Donald, Nix, Bidwill, Martin, and the Chairman. It wtw resolved that the Survey Department be written to, as tliero was some question of the road fences not being in their right places, Mr J, G. Bicknell attended, to request that the road to Mr J. Donald's, through section 71, Maroa, which was the occasion of a dispute some months back, be shifted a few ehuins further south. Mr Beard's opinion will be asked, and the matter will be considered at next meeting. Mr D. Smith wrote, asking for a road through Mr McLaren's land to his. The. Overseer received instructions to attend to a drain near Mr Sinclara's at Morrison's Bush. Mr Bock applied, on behalf of the Wairarupa Kacing Club, to have a portion of tlieroadtotheTauherenikan couvae fenced, —The application was granted. Mr Nix complained of the growth of gorse on the roads. Mr Donald claimed that the gate on the road through section 71, Maroa, was not legal in accordance with the Act,—lt was decided that the matter stand over. I

Mr Bidwill asked for forty ehuins of metalline; on tho ICahautara road. Mr J. Donald moved that Mr Martin and himself constitute a Works Committee to attend to important i works in the district. The Chairman and tho Warden in whose sub-division the work is carried out,to be ex-ollicio members. This concluded the business. ■
