WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

Annual GeneralJleeting. The Annual General Meeting of the above Society was held iu tho Club Hotel on Saturday afternoon, Mr A, Stewart (President) occupying tbo ohair. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed. The report and balance sheet, read by the Secretary (Mr W. Sellar), showed that tho season's operations commenced with a debit balance of £BO 17s 9d, tbo debit balance at the tank now being £29 10s with outstanding accounts amounting to £23 5s 6d, making a total liability of £52 15a 6d. After allowing for uncollected subscriptions and other assets, a net deficit of £lO 15s Gd was shown. The primary cause of the deficiency, which has appeared for the last two years, is stated to be tho cost of the last, Ball which was insufficiently supported by mombers, Last New if ear'? Day was also unfavorable to the Society from a variety of causes. The report recommended tbo curtailing of expenses by reducing the printing and advertising £7 10s and the prize list £ls.

It was pointed out in conclusion that the liabilities of the Society could J be cleared off if members would pay up thoir subscriptions punctually, in which oase a fresh start might be made or the operations of the Society ceased. Mr Lowes thought it a great pity if tho Society dropped into nonexistence. Tho Society was really in a slightly better position than last year, and he considered tlmy might goon for another yearnnd see how they then stood. After the Ist of next January, they could consider whether it would be advisable to wind up. Somehow it appeared to him that less interest was taken by the members than in the past, Caledonians were Caledonians as of old, and he did not see why with careful management, they should not come out all right. There bad been a slight tendency to extravagance in the past, He also thought it would be necessary to reduce the prizes somewhat, The Society wanted reorganizing with a proper paid Secretary, If such were tho case, instead . of expecting a honorary seoretary to work as Mr Sellar had done in the past, they paid a fair salary then they could expect the Secretary to get in the subscriptions, After all was considered be did not think there was anything to be afraid of in the position of the Society. Mr Heron said they were £2O worse off than two years ego. Careful management would be needed. Mr A, Stewart moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet. Mr Lowes seconded and the motion was carried, ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr Robert Cameron was unanimously eleoted President of the Society, and Mr John Drummond vicePreaident. Mr W. Sellar was again elected Secretary and Treasurer at a Balary of £lO. Mr John Henderson was elected a member of tho Society. Mr Heron proposed that the first funds collected bo devoted to paying (k oil the overdraft. Mr Gray seconded and the motion was carried. Mr Quild proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring President, Mr Heron seconded and tho motion was carried, The following gentlemen were elected Directors:—Messrs T.
