CORRESPONDENCE.

• Tk Weraite Rod ■ [To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily Times.] Sir,—l have been alike amused and grieved of late bj niuob that I bare heard and read re tbe Weraite road, This road will afford the natural and readiest acoesa from a large extent of country to Masterton, and the railway station near Masterton. The' Liberals' tell us that mueh of this country should be out up into small holdings. I believe it is the fixed intention of the ownerß to do this. When land is laid out for a township care is taken that there shall be ready access by road or street to every portion of such township and all aro aware that the future of any town much depends on the extent of country around, and the ready access being provided by road to.; such town, from all such countryround, Mr Hogg, member for the District, with the Minister of Lands are Liberals—considered Liberals of ■ the first water-and yet we find them doing their level best to prevent the direct road being opened to those lands, which they maintain should be . cut up and which the said owners are themselves prepared tocutnp, To prevent suoh road beingopened from these lands, with very many thousands, of acres boyond, to Masterton,!' thereby driving the traffio elsewhere, ' is to inflict a deep and lasting injury upon Masterton and the inhabitants of Masterton, and we find the Minister of Lands degrading bis high position to set the law at defiance in his effort to gratify political unecrupulouß spite, with mischievous and most low envy, hatred and malico. " These be your sods (Liberals) oh Israel I" Poor Israel I When little hoys tell crams the rule and law is that their pas and mas invariably whip them, "don't do this again." The Minister of Lands and Mr Hogg are no longer mere boys, they arc ivhat a sheep-farmer would designate " past full mouth " boys. However, there is no hope for it. The Minister of Lands and Mr Hogg having told crams re the "Weraite Boad, the law must be obeyed, they must be whipped. I would only stipulate that when this is determined on, and the date fixed, the duty of seeing the rod properly administered, should be entrusted to myself. I am not,, given to boasting, but I may under*# tttlio to guarantee that about the data so fixed, there should liein the houses of the Minister of Lands and of Mr Hogg, ample and sufficient" weeping and waiting." The Minister of Lands and Mr Hogg by their conduct re tbe Weraite Boad have 6bown themselvea not Liberals but mero shams. Now, all sbams especially living human shams, are unmixed abominations and as suoh to be avoided and told as we say in a game of cards called "Muggins," to" stop.al home." The conduct aforesaid of the Minister of Lands and Mr Hogg should make it dear to the electors of New Zealand in general with the eleotors of Mas» terton district in particular, that when again tbey are called upon to select a Minister of Lands and a Member for Masterton, they should endeavour in each case to select a good and true man, one not likely to take offence or consider himself libelled should his fellows at any tiue mistake him for a gentleman, A gentleman, no sham, a good and true man, a " Work of God," is a scarco commodity, I may not say that such is invariably to be found under a bellUopper; but I may say that wlen one is met .with, who, when lie takes his walks abroad, is invariably to. be found under a tall hat, one naturally expects to find nndersuch tall bat something superior I I nm, etc., Thos. 0, Williams,
