Opening of the Slitter Factories. [Ei Telegraph;— Our Special Conesy pondent.l Pamatua, Wednesday. News was received here yesterday, of tho death at Aharon,, Canterbury, tbroußh a gun accident of Ernest Knight, brothor of Harry Knight, who is in Mr Tosswill's office here. The Fahiatua Chess and Diaughts Club, which now has a membership of thirty-five, sont representatives to Woodville last night to play a tourney. In the contest five men aside played, Fahiatua was successful in five and a half games, Woodville in four and a half. The former thus won by one game. The latter, however, did better at draughts and in a match of four aside, five games each, Woodville Tfon by four games. Chester's Butter Factory, at Balance, was opened yesterday with two hundred gallons of milk. Tho rnaohinery is adapted for fifteen hundred gallons per day,but the rivers were flooded and tbo roadß too heavy for .larger supplies to be brought in, milk was all put through tho separator in forty-two minutes. Mr A. H. Wilson, Mr Chester's engineer, was supervising tho running of the machinery, Mr James Tait, Chairman of milk suppliers, was also present, The roof was flooded with water to test the overhead cooling •chamber, which will be used in warm weather, The Makakahi Factory, situated half way between Pabiatua and Jiketahuna, is to be opened on lionday. It is expected that eight hundred gallons of tnilk daily will be received there. Churning will be done at the central factory at Mangatainoka, between Woodville and Pahiatua, to which oream carts, wjllruu daily from •the creameries • '
