Floods on the West Coast

"• Westpobt, Monday Night, Extraordinary heavy rain fell on Friday and Saturday. It was also raining yesterday and to-day. Telegraphic communication was stopped from Friday night until this morning, tno low-lying parts of the town havo licen flooded, but no great rlamngo done. This has been tho biggest flood in tho Buller river seen for many years, A vast volume of wator with a velocity of nine miles per hour was running, Tho main Buller road has suffered considerable damage from slips, and a portion of the road has been washed completely &way in one place, All vehicle traffic in that direction is stopped. Railway traffic was stopped until this morning by a slips of 2000 tons of earth, on tho lino between Waimangaroa and Conns Creek, Approaches to culverts huva been washed away in many places and the line flooded for miles. Repairs to Ngakawau station will not be completed till next Wednesday, Shipping is yet at a standstill, The weather shows signs of clearing to-day.
