Tho' amount of rates collected sines last! meeting is £587. £273 was passed, for payment on different accounts, Mr Martin, proposed . that the Bank be notified that tile Board -will require an ejverdrafi cot exceeding £ISOO, and the Bank be asked to charge the interest to the loans account. Mr Donald seconded the motion, which was carried. ; The. Board then went into commit- • tee for the purpose of interviewing : their ; solicitor! . • Mrs Beed complained that s neigh> hour's cows fljere always out on the xoad, and polluted the drain from, which Bhe outlined water for domestic purposes. The ranger was ordered ■ to attend to stray cattle. MrH. 8. Izard wuited npon the Board with Mr C.Harris and offeredfco accept £ 1250 for the land proposed to be taken rip jin the Ruakokopatuna Valley, through Mr Harris* property. - The Board after consideration-agreed, without prejudice, to pay Mr Harris '■ £llOO in full [settlement of all claims '. for said )and, on the condition : that neither the Board nor Mr Harris be liable for [fencing the land, the amount to be paid to Mr Harris 1 oh a conveyance being executed to ! the Board, free from encumbrances. Mr Izard afterwards waited on the > Board and agreed on bshalf of Mr ' Harris, to accept the Board's offer, Mr E. Kelly wrote, requesting the 1 Board to sanction a loan of £IOO for ■ the purpose of making a road to his property, through that of Mr W. j. Buck. Mr Bick also wrote, asking for a loan of £IOO to form a road 1 from Lucas riad to bis farm. Mr, Buck alao desired £2O compensation for the land taken rjp for Mr Kelly's road. It was at firßt decided to pay the £2O out of Mr Kelly's thirds accrued. Upon consideration however, Messrs Kelly and Buck agreed to borrow £22p conjointly, £IOO for a road to Mr Back's, £IOO for a toad to Mr Kelly's and the remainder to so, to Mr Buck; as compensation. If was decided that Mr Kelly's thirds be used to pay off interest on loan. The Overseer then submitted the following report:—The work for the ' month comprises the clearing away of 1 slips on the Bimuiaka bill, sheathing! ' of Tauherenikau bridge, erection of, protection works, grubbing of gorso, broom, etc., on various roads, clearing, ot drains at Tlihitara, and repairs to j district and other roads. A bridle j track has been! made over the hill on '.-. the' coast sear To Kopi, at a L -pointv wherej the i. Boa is encr< aching, the Beach, track being dangerous at high tides. The blasting' away of a reck for a track at Mongohui ] is :piogre«siog slowly owing to tho] hardness of the, rock and the exposed situation of the work, The contractors find a difficulty in pushing the work on account of the unsettled state of the weather, but in most places a start has been made. With reference to culverts on the toad between Waibhine and Grey town I find there are two culverts that will require renewing ibis summer. (Estimated cost £30.) ■ 1 would suggest that pipes be used and the j intervening space be filled in as a large water way is not now required, The timber in the platform is apparently sound, and for ordinary traffic] will last*few more years.:: The attention of the Board is directed to thsj levelling and clearing off of logo and rubbish on Piifllips' liae, and also to the skimming off of the turf on the side of the road near Martinborongb. No injury to the roads in either case has been doss, -but tho necessary permissisn hm not been granted."
