FEATHERBTON TOWN BOARD.
The iirst mectiug of the newly elected Town Board was held in the Town Board Ollico on Monday last at 7.30 [Mil. I'hero wre present Messrs W. Cundy, U, W. Bi-ynolds, A. Donald, J. Heel, and W. Hodder, juur. Mr A. Domild proposed that Mr Cundy bo appointed chairman for tho ensuing two years, lie stated thai Mr Cundy had been on the Board since its commr-nconient, and tho fact that he had received tho highest number ot votes at tho last two elections, showed that he hud the confidence ol the ratepayers, Mr Cundy was duly elected. On the motion of Mr Reynolds, Mr A, Donald was appointed treasurer, Tho treasurer's statement was read showing ti balance of Llbl IDs lOd in the bank. Accounts amounting to L 25 IQi <M were passed lor payment, Correspondence inwards was read from Land and Incomo Tax Department re subsidies. From It, Wt Tate, solicitor, stating that any person whose name appears on tho ratepayer's list may voto irrespective of tho payment of rates, From tho late Chairman, stating that he had not informed tho ratepayers of the above lejjal advice, as the general impression was that a ratepayer must pay his rates before he can vote, From Egmont electorate, requesting assistance for the purpose of erecting a memorial to Sir Harry Atkinson. From James Smith, drawing attention to the had state of the street and footpath from Mr Hunter's crossing to tho Empire Hotel, From R, A, Butcher, stating that he intends publishing a paper entitled the " Itadicsl," and asking for a shars of the Board's advertising". Tho Poundkeepor'e report was read, showing an income of sixpence for the month.
The Works Committee's report was read. It was resolved that the whole Board constitute a Works Committco, Mr Reynolds to bo Chairman. It was resolved that the Board rnako a tour of inspection as soon as possible,
A tender was received for the lease of the water reserve, Mr A, Donald moved that consideration of the teudcr be deferred for a week. Mr W. Hodder moved that tlw tender be accepted, Mr Donald's motion was carried,
Mr A. Donald moved that applications bo received up till next Monday for the post of ranger pro tem, until the Board could definitely settlo the question of ranging, the salary to be £25 a year and a month's notice to be necessary on either side. The motion was carried, It was resolved that Mr W. Hodder be inspector of the poundkeeper's book. ■ The Chairman was informed that the sum of £47 13s in rates and arrears waß owing,
Mr Cundy thanked the Board for placing him in tho chair. He also thanked those members who had accepted office under him. Mr J. Fellingham stated that he had been obliged to turn his cows out on tho street, owing to his paddock being flooded through the imperfect drainage in Brandon street, The minutes of a meeting held for the purpose of awarding a sum of £2O to the library, according to a resolution passed some lime -back were road and confirmed, It was resolved that the custodian of the cemetery be paid the sum of £3, Tho Board then adjournod till Monday the 10th,
