CORRESPONDENCE.
Ma Soldier,
[To THE Editor W.D. Times,] Siß,—Would you kindly permit mo through your columns, to contradict a statement made by Mr S. Groves in his evidence in the slander caseClark vNaylor—and which appeared in your issue of the 29th inst., to the effect that he was a member of the Salvation Army, which statement is untrue as he is not and never Im been a member of the Salvation Army in Pahiatua, I am etc., , W. D. Molnneb, Secretary, Pahiatua Corps, Salvation Army. Twenty Acres, a Cow, and Charitable Aid, [to the editor, wairarapa daily TIMES.] Sir,—A local appeared in one of the Masterton papers some time back, re a settler in Alfredton receiving charitable aid, who bad a section and a cow. , Be the above local, your correspondent wishes to offer a few remarks, The section alluded to was a Small Farm Settlement of twenty acres, partly unfenced; and beiug unfenced is valueless, as the neighbours' sheep eat the grass. As everyone knows the sheep will starve the cow out. If the liabilities of the settler were considered, thoy would'outweigh the section and the cow. Seeing the settler is a man over sixty years of age, and not strong; with a young family of four children, all under ten years of age, there would not seem much to comment upon in bis application for relief, Settlers in this district contribute a considerable amount to this fund: it surely cannot be too much to ask for some return to be given to one of its needy contributors; and it would be just that each Eoad Board District controlled its share of this fund. Apologising for'trespassing on your valuable space,—lam, etc, Equity,
