WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.

Adjourned Annual Meeting.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Wairarapa Ruciog Club was hold in the Oddfellows' Hall, Featberston, on Saturday afternoon, There wore * about forty membors present, chiefly i , from the lower end of the Valley. In ! gfthe absence of Mr Eussell, the j?resident, Ml'N. Graco (the Vico-PresU dent) took the chair, The Chairman stated the business of the meeting, Mr Wilkinson brought . forward a further amendment on tbe proposition of Mr Beard and Mr Mcybaoe's amendment at last meeting, Mr Beard's proposition was that the Club do not borrow more than £IOO for improvements and Mr McShane's amendment was that L6OO or L7OO be borrowed, Mr Wilkinson stated that it bad since been found that the propoßed improvements could be carried out for a less sum than was 7 at first estimated and his amend- j ment was thai L 350 be spent on the i work. Instead of taking away the • present grand stand and erecting a ; new one, Mr Wilkinson proposed to raise the roof of the present building two feet and to eitend it over the room at tbe end, which had been used by the stewards, It was proposed to removo the ladies' luncheon room downstairs, and to % erect a balcony which would give tbe required accommodation, Tbe Sloward»' stand would also be removed, and a building containing a Stewards' room, Secretary's room, and weighing room, would be erected in its place, The saddling paddocks would he enlarged and the entrance to tbe course altered to prevent the course being crossed twice. Mr Grace seconded Mr Wilkinson's amendment, and took the liberty as soionder, to withdraw Mr Beard's motion ro the loan of LIOO. Mr McShane stated that ho was willing to alter the motion re L7OO loan to a motion that LSOO bo expended on im- . prdvoments, unless Mr Wilkinson raised his LBSO to LSOO. In support of Mr McShane's statement Mr Elgar added that from his own experience, contracts wore seldom finished at the estimated cost and therefore it was necessary that sufficient expenditure be authorised, Mr Wilkinson heattily , favoured Mr MoShane's amendment 'and withdrew his own in its favour. 'jjfsx McShane's motion was put to the f meeting and carried, Mr Wilkinson proposed that a two days' meeting he held at the New Year, and that it be left to the stewards to decide about the Autumn meeting, Mr C, R, Bidwill said he thought it would bo better to hold a Bingle meeting in January and a two days' meeting at Easter, as two otlior A clubs held their meetings in tbe Christmas week, and it would be easier for the horse-owners, It was tbe opinion of most of the members that tbe club was a good one and need not trouble about other clubs, Mr Wilkinson then added to his motion that tbe stewards be instructed to expend no less than £550 in stakes at the January meeting, The motion 0, was carried, It was proposed by Mr McSbano that not more than 10% be deducted from tho money put through the totalisator, Mr Elgar moved as an amendment that llf%be deducted, After a considerable amount of discussion, Mr Elgat's mo*vfon was carried, Mr Wilkinson proposed that new memoors joining the Club be ohargsd £1 entrance fee. Mr McShane proposed that there he no entrance fee, but that all members subscribe 80s annually, instead of 20s, After some discussion Mr Wilkinson's motion was carried. It was resolved also that the entrance be not charged till within one * month's time from the date of the meeting, Mr Mutton proposed that six stewards retire from office at the end of theyear, and be eligible forrwlec

Mr Hutton's proposition wis declared informal, and was not pot to the meeting. It was resolved on tho motion of Mr MeShane that the by-laws of the Ohib bo printed and distributed to tho members, Mr MeShane proposed that the stewards be empowered to purchase adjoining land in order to curry unt certiiii alterations in the course, Mr Wilkinson stated that the alteration could be made without tho purchase of additional land, Mr MeShane then withdrew his motion and proposed that the stewards be instructed to Bee to the altoration of tho courao if pos6iblu before tho next meeting. The proposed alteration is to remedy a sharp curve at tho entrance of the strait, The motion was crrried, It was resolved on the motion of Mr MeShane that the Metropolitan Club be written to asking that arrangements be made, for the representation of country clubs at future conferences and that circulara bo sent to other clubs in tho Welliugton district asking them to tako a similar course of action, The proposal of several new members terminated the business and the meeting finished,
