The Maiterton Pastoral and Agricultural Society holds a general committee meeting on Wednesday, 28th, September, to adopt the prize list and to dispose of ordinary business in connection with the coming show. A trial of the new plough manufactured by thoMasterton Blacksmith and Wheelwright Manufacturing Company, wai held at Williams and Beetham's estate, Lansdowne, last Saturday afternoon. It was witnessed by a good number of farmers who wore all well pleased with the work done and also admired the plough for its simplicity and convenience of shifting as well as for its strength and lightness. The plough was tested by going 8 inches deep by 10 inches wide; and it proved quite capable of turning a furrow that size. The Comoany's manager (Mr WaK lace) informs us that they are prepared to manufacture these ploughs, and fit thorn with any kind of mould boards that customers may desire We regret to notice that Mr and Mrs W, R. Thompson of Greytown have sustained a second loss through death within I the last few months, their sou Albeti having died on Sunday, n3 a fatal result of a severe attack of rheumatic fever. It ia nob lomr since Mr and Mrs Thompson were bereaved in tho death of their eldest son, William-only three months ago, indeed, and now a second blow has fallen. The funeral of the late Alhert Thompson will be on Wednesday at two ({'clock.
It was characteristic of the lato Mia Caroline Neill, whose death wo recorded yesterday, that once when her husband was in bad health and her family needed support, she turned out and took to stone-breaking for one of the local bodies and so maintained those dependant upon her.
