MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of tho Mastctton School Committee was held on Thursday, 16th September, at 7.80 p.m. Present-Messrs Edwin Feist (Chairman), Z. M. Hoar, 0, E, Daniell, W. M. Easthope, K. M. Galloway, Joseph Williams, \Vm. Prngnell, and W. Seller (Secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr •W, G. Beard, The Treasurer reported a credit balance oi 8a 4d. A letter was received from the Town Lands Trustees, advising that £4O has been granted for general purposes and 11 10 a for library. Mr Feist moved and Mr Easthope seconded, that Messrs W, G. Beard and the mover be appointed a subcomjMee to examine the proposed for the ensuing year with a view to reducing the same if pos- *• sible,
The Education Board advised that the application for fencing at new Infant School was aooedpd to, A copy of the School Inspector's report was read showing that he proposed to advocato repairs aud ropainting of tho Main School, and sagijosting that the School Committee should ,c»nsent lo the removal of several tanks which were not now being used. Resolved that the Education Board be advised that tho Coramittoe approves of the Inspector's Report, agrees lo tho removal of the tanks, and urges the Board to proceed with the repairs and painting at Main School at the earliest possible date, The Headmaster reported 601 chit- - dren on the roll, average attendance 489, percentage 81; and forwarding ■ a list of irregular children, Tho Secretary of the North Wairarapa Ben- . evolent Society also submitted a list of children of parents on their hooks, who a|e reported as not attending school.' The Secretary was instructed to rnako further enquiries, and, if Becessary,take,Btepß tojenforce attendance. The Head Master presented a return of the size of tho several class rooms at the school, and tho average attendance in each, Resolved that the attention of tho Education Board be called to tho fact that tho Infant Room at tho Main School is over- • crowded by Staudaid I. being taught in it, and that tho Board bo asked to make provision for tho accommoda'tion of Standard L, as the average attendance inthelnfautßootais now
182, the size of the room being only 15x22. The absentee list was next considered, and instructions were givon to i lie Secretary how to proceed. The visiting member, Mr Galloway, reported that he had arborised the removal of gorse from tho Main School grounds, Mr Z. M. Hoar was appointed visiting member, and the meeting closed.
