We understand that there is likely to bo a crowded house to-night at the Theitre Royal, Masterton, to witness the performauco of " Tho Guv'nor" by a patty of amateurs, in aid of the Catholic School funds, Tho play is a capital one, with situations of an intensely funny character, and out Wairarapa exchanges have all spoken in tho highest terms of the way in which it was recontly staged in Greytown. Indeed, we beliove that somo of the principals would bo hard to beat sb amateurs, and there is little duubt that tbe public will have an enjoyable evening while contributing to tho support of the eohool jo energetically carried on by their Masterton fellow-citizens. The opera of "Tristan and lsalde," which was recontly being played in tho Dury Lane Theatre, London, commencod at half-past seven o'clock each night and did notterminatu until 12,25 a.m. Surely this performance Bhould have been soulsatisfying enough, if its quality were in any degreo commensurate with its length. Theaudienco were in raptures, it is said, although one particular critic was unsympathetio enough to taj that ho thought tho music dead, dull, and unmelodioußj but as everyone else was in ecstasies ho knew he must bo wrong.
