FEATHERSTON NOTES.
(From Ow Own Correspondent.) Feathersion, Tuesday: A meeting of ratepayers was held in tho Town Board office last night, Mr J. G. Cox being in the chair. In , answer to the question of a ratepayer, the Chairman stated that legal advice hod not been received concerning tho voting of ratepayeis who bad not paid their rates, The chief subject of discussion for the rest of tho evening was the Ranger. The Board had been for some timo without a Ranger, and the local constable who bad been asked to act in that capacity had acted under the Police Offences Act, The result was that if a horse or cow was out on thestreet, accidentally orintentionally, tho owner would bo fined in the R.M, Court at lenst Bs, if not more, It was difficult to get a good Ranger, as the sum paid by the Bonid was insufficient, and tho Ranger was obliged to go to some work and neglect his duties. Oo the motion of Mr W. Buckeridge, it was resolved that the incoming Board be advised to make some arrangement to induce a competent man to act ns Rangor, Nightman and Sweep. It was suggested that a household lax be levied to pay the man il the incoming Board thought fit to appoint one. The Rev Mr Lymbourne from Maryborough, held a dissolving views entertainment in St George's Hall last night. The Hall was very full, standing room only being found for a great many, During the evening tho Wesleyan Church Choir sang three choruses, Mrs Neilson a solo, " Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and Miißter B. Badland, from Martinborongb, recited "LittloJim," whileiiows waro shown to illustrate the poem.
