Monthly Meeting.
The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Iforth Wairarapa Benevolent Society was held in Mr E. H. Waddington's office this (Thursday) morning. Present—Messrs Galloway, (Chairman), Gapper, Stuckey, Dagg, and W'.'Perry. MINUTES, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. lINAKCB, The Treasurer reported that the bank account showed a credit balance of £93 10s 2d, which, after unpresented cheques were deducted, left an actual balance of £67 5s 9d, COIIIIESrOSDENCE,
Correspondence w»b received from ihe Inspector-General re constitution of the Society. From tho Audit Office, forwarding tho Society's balance sheet. From Mr W. H. Jackson in reference to the children of various persons obtaing relief from tbe Society, pointing out tbat some of them were not attending any school,—lt was decided to hand the report to the truant officer. A letter was received from Dr Stcnhouse, of Duniidin, in reference to the circumstances of Mis Hopwood, to whom application bad been made for the support of her son who is un« able to work, and asking that tbe young man's passage to Dunedin be paid by the Society.—lt was resolved to write to Mrs Hopwood andDr ytenhouae, informing them tbat the matter was not one with which tbe Society could deal,
TOE WILLIAMS FAMILY, Mrs Henry Williams wrote to th Society, asking for tho sum of £lO to buy clothes for herself and children, upon receipt of which they would withdraw from the Society, as a home bad been offered them in another part, Mrs Williams stated that her husband was "not included in tbe family," and declined to state in what part of tbe Colony tbe home bad been offered. Tho communication was laid on the table,
Mr W. 6. Beard attended to advise the Trustees in reference to the Henry Williams case. He explained that he had received a communication from the solicitors of the Wanganui Oharitable Aid Board, informing him that the Board intended to appeal against the decision of the B.M, Court, if it went againßt them, and therefore suggesting that to save expense on both sides the matter be at once taken to the Supreme Court,? It was resolved that the case he left in the hands of the Society's solicitor to deal with, a report to be made at the next meeting, CASUAL OASES, Tho Secretary's action in relieving several casual cases was approved, ACCOUNTS. Dr Hoskinsj's account was placed before the Trustees, and left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary to endeavour to obtain a reduction on certain items.
Accounts amounting to £Ci Ms were passed for payment, Belief in the regular cases was ordered to be continued until next meeting,
