CONCERT AT GREYTOWN.

The Carterton Choral Society.

A grand Concert in aid of the Greytown Presbyterian Church Building Fund, was given by the Carterton |. Choral Hooiety, in the Qreytomi n Foresters' Hall last evening. There , e was a very large attendance, including „ visitors from Mastevton, Ourterton n and surrounding districts, tho Hall be'ng crammed, The first iwrt of the programme was'sacred, consisting of solcoiions from Handel's ontono"Tho Messiah," and the second part secular. Mr Proctor officiated as conductor, and Miss Armstrong as pianist, There was n splendid chorus of thirty voices. Tho whole affair was par x oxcfllence, being rendered in such a , manner as not only to astonish tlio r Natives, as tho saying goes, but to j astonish the Europeans, The sacred . part was as follows:—Chorus," And j the Glory of the Lord;" contralto . solo and chorus, Miss Parker, " 0 ! Thou that lellest;'' bass recitative and , air, Mr J. Monciieff, " For behold i darkness shall cover the earih,"" The people that walked in darkness"; Chorus, "Behold thoLambof God"; contralto solo, Miss Armstrong, " He was despised;"soprano solo, Mrs Burgess, "I know that my Redeemer liveth"; chorus, "All wo liko sheep"; soprano solo, Mrs Dmlson," But thou , didst not leave"; chorus, " Lift up your heads" ; bass recitative and solo, Mr Burgess," Tho trumpet shall sound," with cornol oblignto by Mr B Berrill; chorus, " Hallelujah," This concluded tho first part, and aftor tho t interval of a few miautes, the following glees and quartettes were tendered :—Glee," 0' who will o'er tho Downs so free "; glee, " Boat Song" j double quartette, "Softly fall the , shades ofovening" ; sopranos, Mfs.damesßurgess and Mooro; contraltos, Misses Armstrong and Parker; J. tenors, Messrs Downard and T. Bathbone; basses, Messrs Burgess and ■ Smith; Humorous glee, " Three Doughty Men;" double quartette (same voices as before) " The Iron Founders."
