'MM Report of the Week.
Masterton, September 2. The New Zealand Loau and Mercantile Agency Company, Limitod, report on the produce market for the past week as follows:
Wool-Advices from Home since date of our last report are in the direction of increased activityin the map; factoring districts, and a hardening tendency in values, There is, however, nothing definite to report, nor will there be until the opening of next series on 13ib September next, Disappointment with results of shipments is the general ory, but it is to bo hoped that wo shall see an improvement beforo the new clip comes to hand.
SheepßKinb—Owing, doubtless, to continued bad weather experienced lately no freezers have come forward at Wellington this week, and we repeat our last quotation, viz: for best green factory up to 6s ; country dry crossbreds, half wool, B|d to 4d, and three-quarter to full-woolled, up to 6d per lb ; butchers' green skins ,up to 5s each.
Hides—The rnarkot is without alteration at prices ranging from l|d to 3|d according to description. Tauow and Fat—All consign" ments received by our Wellington house aro readily disposed of at Jate rates. Prime tallow is worth 18. to 19s; inferior to good 153 to I7sj and rough fat 12s to 13s 6d per cwt, The London market is dull, prime mutton tallow being worth £26 and good beef £2310s per ton. OAT3.—The usual business is pas* sing in Wellington, and a slight advance in price has taken place; good short feed being worth 2s 3d to 2a 4d per bushel. Nearly all oats uow held in the 0 dony are in the hands of speculators, It is stated that they have stored in Invercargill and Bluff alone some 280,000 saoks. These must be placed on the market at an early date, and unless the spring delivery from the couutry proves exceptionallylight, we may expect to seo prices about on a par with those ruling in the autumn. Fowl Wheat and Barley.—Prices are extremely low, and large quantities are on offer. Maize,—A marked inoreasa in value has taken place during the week at Wellington, and wo are now soiling at 3s Id per bushel ther^V Chaff.—Nothing fresh to t^iort; All' consignments meet with ready sale.
Grass Seeds.—We continue moving off lines for spring sowing at prices quoted in our last report, viz.: -Southern ryegrass, 8a 9(1 to 4a 6d; Poverty' Bay rye, Gs to Cs 9d; Pacey's rye, 4s Gd to 4a 9d per bushel at Wellington, The enquiry for cocksfoot is limited, and supplies are largp,
Frozen Meat,-Our London manager cabled as follows on 26th inst,, viz,:—Market firm. Canterbury mutton is worth 4d, and Wellington mutton 3|d por lb, Pritno New Zealand lambs nre worth per carouse Gd per lb. New Zealand beef, forequai'ters, is worth 2|d, and hindquarters, 4Jd por lb, The markets for lambs and beof are understocked.
