An Important Point in Licensing Law.

In the Supreme Court amotion for a writ of certiorari was htard, directed against the Licensing Committee of Invercargill North, to remove into the Court all the proceedings connected with the application of John Cameron, made on the 30th June last for a renewal of his license for the North Star Hotel, for the purpose of having a certificate granted to John Cameron and tho license thereunder quashed on the ground that no application by the said John Cameron was presented toiheCommiitee as required by the Act, The application was made by Mr John Taylor, minister of the Gospet. The affidavit filed showed that the application for n license had been made by Hewitt, and consideration postponed to tho 80th Juno. Two days before that date he withdrew his application. The Scottish and New Zealand Investment Company, the owners, requested that tho license should be given to John Cameron, and a certificate was issued, although no application in writing bad been made by Cameron. Justice Williamsgranted (he order without costs, remarking that the Act was defective in not protecting landlords' interests,
