MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting, Tho monthly meeting of the Masterton Road Board was held on Saturday last, there being present Messrs W. H. Bectlmvn (Chairman) Harris, Holmes, M'Kenzie, and Wardell. MINUTES. Tho minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed, - SALE MAN. The Clerk was instructed to ask Mr Aiideis'6n, surveyor, of Carterton, for a sale plan (or tracing) of the property at Upper Opaki now owned by Mr Elkins. LOAN. The Clerk was instructed to apply for ihe Treasurer's provisional approval of Mr Blatchford's proposal for a £l5O loan. OKURUrETI BLOCK, It was resolved to ask the County Engineer to define the road through the Okurupeti Block, and to moke an estimate of how 1100 could be most advantageously expended; that as soon as the road is pegged off Mr Carman be informed that he must not plough it up again. SUfIJIDIKH, A circular ve subsidies was received from the Awatere Road Board, and the Chairman was authorised to sign a potition to the House on tho subject, DORSE. The Engineer reported that the gorse miißt have spread from the. hedges in ft out of the properties of Messrs Buick and Cot tin, as there was no spread of gorso where there was no hedge. Mr Harris thought a portion of tho ■ gorse had been distributed with the gravel with which the road was metalled. It was resolved that the Board is unable to relieve Messrs Buick and Cottle from tho responsibility of keeping the yorse down on their respective frontages, as the Board have reasonable ground for considering that the spread is from their hedges, It was decided to request the Board's solicitor to advise as to tho powers of the Board to order tho removal of goise from the road in cases where a hedge is on one side only, and if tho opinion authorises tho Board, the Clerk Hh instructed to give owners with frontages notice to grub up the gorse,

It was resolved that the Board is prepared to grant £5 towards tho remuneration of a ranger in conjunction with the Wairarapa North County Council. BLUFF ROAD. A deputation consisting of Messrs Guild, D. J. Cameron, Mawley, G. McKay, J. McKay, Falconer, A. Hosking and R. Cameron waited upon the Board with reference to the resolution deciding that £2O of the rates of sub-divi-sion No. 2 be voted towards the maintenance, of Bluff road, in subdivision No. 1,

Mr Guild, who acted as spokesman, stated that the deputation desired an explanation as to the reasons which influenced the Board in suggesting to take the course of expending rates collected in No. 1 sub-division on subdivision lie. 2. After some discussion it wasdecided,

" That the Board dons not see its way to applying any of the rates raised iu sub-division No, 2 towards the cost of maintaining the Bluff road, but suggeßtß to the ratepayers of Bub-

division No. 1 to petition (or an alteration in the boundary which will

throw the above road into Bub-diviaion No, 2."

The Clerk was instructed to restore the credit balance to the Bluff road loin account (£26 10b 7d), to be charged against sub-divisions Nob. 1 and 2 in the proportions in which the wire granted to Messrs D, and C, M'Lachlan, respectively, was used on roads in those sub-divisions, GRAVEL RESERVE.

The Engineer was 'instructed to widen Bluff road out of the balance of the restored lpan, It was decided to take steps, on the recommendation of the Engineer, toarrange for tho work at Mr H, Jen: sen's when the Board knows what thirds are available, and that tho Mauriceville Board be requested to grant tho thirds from the half of the section in their district to this work,
