FOOTBALL.

(By Diogenes.)

An interesting match to the rising generation was. played on the Park Oval this morning, between representative teams of the Wellington and Wairarapa Schools, resulting in a win for the city boys by six points to nil Several hundred boys were on the ground, together with a number of adults. The Wellington boys were neatly attired in a red and black uniform, and were indeed a line 'athletic looking lot of youths, In average weight they were slightly heavier than the Wairampa representatives, who had several very email lads, and one or two raher exaggerated ones. Mr GinWra was chosen referee, and Messrs McCain and Ngatuere line umpires. Both teams were lustily oheered on entering the ground, and the visitors wore the favourites, on account of their smart appearance. The game, however, was an extremely even one, and although Wellington had the luck, Wairarapa played equally as well, Tho captain of the city boys, Thompson, marked in the first spell, and Carter placed a pretty goal, The only score in tho second spell was a try scored by Carter, which was not converted, Great amueement was caused to the spectators throughout lye game, as the players invariably floundered about the' large pools of water, and they all presented a very picturesque appearauco when the game was conoluded. The victors played the smartest combined game, and were up to all the cunning tricks imaginable, about the best players being Fraser, Wallace, lone?, and Carter, Tho most conspicuous atogftg our boys were Lindop (who played about the best three-quarter game on the Geld), Cameron, Sutton and Smith, hut they all deserve credit for the manner in which they kept the visitors at bay. The boys were entertained after the match at the school, where a sumpluoub dinner was provided, and they returned to Wellington this afternoon thoroughly pleased with their trip to Masterion,
