PARAMO AND WE MEDICOS. WHAT THE PRESS HAYS. TYPOGRAPHICAL TESTIMONY. THE EDITORS FOK ONCE AGREE. CNew Zealand Times, May 14, 1892.) Tho British Medical Journal is vary angry with Lord Onslow. The particular cause of the Journal's wrath is that our late Governor has absolutely dared to testify to the value of remedies whose composition is not detailed m the British Pliannacopceia, Tho wrath is expressed as follows"We Bee with rcgref Lord Onslow shamelessly puffing quack secret remedies by an advertised letter-as scandalous an abuse of political position and as discreditable a folly as has been for a long time brought under notice." Poor Lord Onslow I Tho dyspeptio diatribe above quoted owes its existence, no doubt, to the fact that Lord Onslow, having found virtue in somo of the Maori herbal romodies prepared by Mother Aubert, actually had the courage to say bo in print. Why tho British Medical Journal should deem such testimony a hitjh offence, and, judging by the strength of the languago it uses, an almost criminal misdemeanour, 1 totally fail to see, savo that the average medical mind is fanatically opposed to any medical innovation which does not proceed from recognised red-taped sources.

'Twas ever thus with the medicos. Al. moat every new advance made in medi. cal Bcience has been bitterly attacked aa " quackery" when it appeared, every new thinkor denounced as a madman or worse, and every formula not hallmarkod by the " Lancet" and " British Medical Journal" as a dangerous innnvation. Personally, while not having the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with either Mother Aubort or Mr Kemptliorne, 1 oan sympathise with them and Lord Onslow m bwids the Maori Remidiea denounced as "quack remedies, 1 ' Only one nf those samn " quack remo dies" do I know, and that •'Karana" to wit, which as a " real good thing " for a man with a liver, I would cordially recommend to the editor of the B.M.J, He appears to need it sadly, for the oommon and domestic and "recognised" pndophyllin has evidently been of no service to him, otherwiso he would never have penned so spiteful a paragraph. As howevor, the " Maori Remedies •'quack and secret "though they be—aro reported to be selling like the pro* verbial "hot cakes," neither Mother Aubert nor Mr Kempthome is likely to worry about the wrath of the 1 British Medical Journal," As for Lord Onslow he is at Home, and can fight his own battle.—" iSorutata," in the' New Zealand Mail. 1

Weekly Hebaid, Aran SO, 1892, A southern paper says 11 What with Marupa, Karana, Faramo, Natanata and cold weathor, typhoid iever has been driven from the city of Wellington, and the place is now &b healthy as any town in New Zealand. No small share of the credit is due to the Rev Mother Mary Joaeph Auberfc for the production of her unrivalled remedies," And as far as we are personally concerned we must say that, when any one of our staff is afleo ted, no matter from what oauaei even from alcoholic poisoning, we pour into him a bottle of Marupa, when restoration to a normal condition takes placo atonce.
