WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
Monthly Meeting,
The monthly meeting of the North Wairarapa County Council was held yesterday (Thursday), there being present Ors Stuckey (in the chair), j Maunsell, Groves, Guild, Smith e Cockburo-Hood, and Von Eedin. t MINUTES. ( The minutes of tie previous meet' 1 ing were read and oontirmed. ( PROPERTY VALUATION. . I Cr W. H. Beetham wrote, stating i that he had interviewed the Commissioner of Taxes, who bad consented to I the Council obtaining the unimproved i values of property in the County in I detail. i On the motion of Or Oockburn- i Hood it was decided to prooure a ro- i turn of the unimproved values at a : cost of £1 or thirty shillings. Cr Smith eugaested the taking of : step? for striking the rates on the unimproved values of property, After some disoussiou it was de-' cided to allow the matter to stand over until the information is obtained from the Commissioner ol Taxes. KAIWHATA ROAD. The Taratahi-Carterton Boad Board wrote with reference to the proposed road up the Kaiwhata Valley, stating that the North County Council was the proper body to take action, Cr Smith proposed that the matter be allowed to stand ovor to permit of the settlers taking what notion they may consider necessary, Cr Von Redin seconded.-Carried. RANGER. The Mastorton Boad Board wrote, ■ stating that it was not prepared to "Iter the existing arrangement with 1 the ranger, Mr J.C.lngram.

Ingram slated that he , would haye to decline the rangorsliip , if he was expected to work at nights, i The Chairman moved," That uiilw 1 Mr Ingram is prepared to accept th» I conditions of the Council before next meeting, a deputation coußistinq of f himself and Cr Guild wait upon the ' Road Board and see if arrangements ® oannot be made for the appointment * of n ranger for the whole distriot." 1 Cr Smith seconded,—Carried.
A NUISANCE. The Borough Counoil wrote, stating that the Inspector of Nuisances was at liberty to prosecute persons depositing rubbish in the Waipoua, It was decided to instruct the Inspector to take action against the offenders. A BAD ROAD. A letter from Mr Thomas Pickett, of Whakataki, complaining (bat the road in front of his property was in n very bad state, was referred to the Engineer, RATING NATIVE LANDS, The Taranaki County Council forwarded a resolution in favour of the rating of Native Lands and asked the support of this County in the matter. Or Von Eedin moved that this Counoil heartily supports the resolution of the Taranaki Counoil and oends a copy of this motion to tho Government.
Cr Smith seconded, Cr Guild did not think the whole of tho Native Lands could be rated. The Chairman and Or Yon Eedin thought that where the lands were individualised they should be made to pay rates. After further disoussion the resolution was put and deolared carried, THE FENCING ACT. ;
Gr Guild colled attention to the Fencing Act &r it affected Natives. If a European .<! a properly adjoining that of a Native he was compelled to fence, and if his stock trespassed on the Native's land he could be prosecuted, Or Von Eediti: Another injustice. No action was taken in the . matter, HE VAiLE SYSTEM. A communication from -Mr Vaile on his railway system was laid on the table,

A circular from the New Zoaland Farmers'and Country Settlers' League, suggesting the formation of a similar Lengne in Masterton was held ever (or consideration till next meeting, STOPPING A ROAD, A proposal from the Eketahuna Road Board to stop a certain road was confirmed, FINANCE. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read and adopted, and accounts as recommended passed for payment, • BALANOE'BnEET, A resolution was passed finally settling the balance-sheet for the past year, which was laid on the table, engineer's befort. The report of the Engineer was read and adopted. On his recommendation it was decided to give Mr A. Tanlin notice that he must remove his cottage off the ferry reserve at tho Taueru within a month, The Clerk was instructed to frame a by-law for the regulation of the timber traffic on the roads throughout the County. It was decided to intimate to the rapger at the Taueru that unless his duties were more satisfactorilypperr r forced hjs wipes would foe dispensed with,
It waß resolved to ask tbe CasfcleJiomt Road Board if it was prepared to contribute towards the maintenance of the roatjs in that district, apd if so, to what extent, THE ESTIMATES.
The Council then discussed tho Estimates for the ensuing year, STRAYING CATTLE.
