LOCAL INDUSTRY.

Messrs Dixon Bros. New Factory.

That there nro business men in Masterton who have faith in the future piospecta of our town, is evidenced—m at least one instance-by Messrs Dixon Bros.; who iwo rocemly erected a new cordial and (crated water factory in Chapel Street, Masterton, everything in comiectl>n with it being c.n the most improved pirns, no expniM being spared to make the concern one of the most cuui|-leto in tlit- Welling on I'rovinco. The main toii.diug is 70 feet long by 20 feet in width aud is divided by three oioss partitions, The portion nearest Chapel Street is used ns mi office and cordial store, then comes the manufacturing department, tbe remaining partition shutting off tho engine house and the bottle-washing room. Atthsbaekis an exteusivo gravelled yard, with stables and othor outbuildings. Everything possible in the way of labor saving apparatus has been fitted up and by a clever arrangement of shafting the Bttani engiue is made to do its full duty. The whole of the water used is pumped by iteamfor fire prevention purposes two four hundred gallon tuuks being always kept full-and when making lemonad: etc., the water is pumped dirtot 'into tbe machine. All the bottles are washed by steam revolving brushes, first in Lot and afterwards in cold water, thus onsuring thorough cleanliness. A pet feet network of galvanised iron piping runs all over tho building, so that hot or cold water may be obtained, wherever required, without any running about, A large copper for syrup boiling has been erected and fitted with a steam coil, so that in ten minutes it can be made to boil without the trouble of lighting fires and patiently waiting for tho result. Bottling is carried on by means of two patent rapid turnover racks, each capable of putting through seventy five dozen an hour, and a corking stand of tho latest type, for pints and quarts, with whichforty five dozen an hour can be bottled. All round the insido of tho faotory bins and shelves have been arranged for the reception of fliock, so that large orders may bo executed at a moment's notice.

Altogether the building is a credit to the town, and the enterprise of Messrs Dixon Bros, should entitle them to large support. Mr Joseph Dixon (who for many years carried on business by himself in Queen Street) is well known as a thoroughly straightforward business man, and has mado a host of friends throughout the Wairarapa. His brothor (Mr Edward S, Dixon) possesses the same Bterling qualities, and being of an unusually energetic nature we may expect to see the new firm boom along on the road to prosperity. At any rate theirs is a liquor business which has no enemies, because while the lover of strong drink modifies his nip of " Dawson's Perfection" wilb a little lemonade or ginger ale, so also does the Prohibitionist, temper his " raspberry " with the same. We might add that the contractor for the building was Mr J, Montgomery, his work giving the higheßt satisfaction to Messrs Uixon Bros, while the handsome siguwiiting and deoorating on the front of the building is another specimen ol ibe artistic skill 'of Mr A, Chisholm.
