Sad 'Case of Destitution:

A most revolting case of poverty and neglect was brought under the notice of tho police on Wednesday by Mrs O'Brien, of Wakeman-stieet. Four little girls, children of Thomas Hughes, who at one time kept the Post oflics boarding-house, have for some time been living in a roughly* built, wretched-looking tenement, between Knight's buttery and Mr O'Brien's, in oharge of a woman named baunders, with whom Hughes had for some time cohabited. On Wedr nesday t])is- woman informed Mrs Q'Briei} that she was going away, and requested her to take charge of one of thg children, and to give the others, whom s|je proposed to leave looked up in the house, nn allowance of bread and dripping and a drink of water—which it seems was tbe only thing in the shape of food in tho-house—at intervals.
