DEEMING AND AFRICA.

A South African correspondent writes a Malmsbury friend (states the Motcalf Shire News):-" By cablegram in the papers, I see your police very soon " potted " the scoundrel Williams (or Deeming); I met the fellow at Kimberley. He said he was an old Australian, and about to return to bring over his wife and two children, You know I had promised to return and marry the girl I left behind me. I agreed to be back in Victoria in three years, and my term of single wretchedness had almost expired when I met Williams. I was making a rapid" pile" at tbe time of our meeting, and did not like to leave, feeling confident Kate would excuse me for my neglect in not being up to time. Under the circumstances I asked Williams if he would bring over my intended wife with Mrs Williams and the children. He readily consented, and I gave him £250 for Kate's expenses, Williams'did not return and failed to present himself to my intended. I lost the money and narrowly escaped losing tbe wife too. I suppose tbe next time I see Williams will be in the Bourke Street waxworks ; if i*o, a good job for him his head bus lost the sense of feeling.
