Yosterday the Petitions Committee had tho case of the Hon. John Bryce under consideration. A motion was made that the Committee recommend the House to rescind its resolution re Mr Bryce, and on a division it was lost by five votes to four.
A return laid on the table of the House gives the following particulars of land claims under the Naval and Military Bottlers and Volunteers Lands Act from 30th September, 1889, to 30th June, 1892;-Claims pnid in cash, 890; amount paid, £0970 10s; claims satisfied by scrip, 628, value £22,516 10s; scrip exercised, one claim for £3O in Canterbury distriot; claims unsatisfied, four, to the value of £560, through claimants failing to comply with the Act, The foreign timbsr imported for use on New Zealand railways from 25th September, 1891, to 7th July inst, amounted to 699,169 superficial feet, and 9519 liueal feet of piles not less than llin.in diameter. The Colonial Bank is petitioning for a share of the Government business, basing its claim upon the important service it rendered to the Colony in 1887, and upon a promise made by the then Government, The Government propose setting up committees to onquire into the olaims of old soldiers and volunteers, and to consider all matters connected with the agricultural and pastoral industries.
