MacShano; Handi-capper-J.Henry; Clerk of Coin seJ, A. Kenall; Tiraekeeper-W. Armstrong; Secretary—G. 8. M. MoDermid. The first Steeplechase Meeting in connection with the Wuirarapa Hunt Club whs hold at Tauherenikau on Satuiday last, wi although the weather was very unfavourable, being cold and showery all day, the attendance was fairly largo and iho sport excellent, Infaotnis safo to say that a better day's real snortwithout mishap, acoidont, or hitch of any kind-has never been bold in tho Wairurapa. Every event brought out good fields, and the jumping was simply splendid, convincing everybody present that the Waiinrapa can boast of possessing some roal Hunters, and also men who know how to handle Whom over the obstacles, as evidenced the splendid races ridden by some of the geutlomon riders. The Trial Steeplechase was won by F. Pearce on Nuts, who was also fortunate enough to win tbo Hunt Club Steeplechase with Cyrus 11, Mr Cotter * with Dromedary taking tbe Ladies Bracelet after a well contested race in which W. E. Bidwill was a good second on Donovan, One very noticeable fact was that every event was run to time, thus enabling visitors from Wellington and the North Wairarapa to witness all the racing without any hurry to catch trains. Mr S. Powell, as starter, fully maintained bis high reputation, every field being got away in splendid order, without any of the vexatious delay which too frequently tries the patience of visitors to race meetings, The various officers, notably Mr G. S. M. McDermid (the courteous secretary) worked hard, and are to be congratulated on the thorough success of their efforts IAo make the meeting a really enjoyable one. Considerably over £2OOO was put through the totulisators and a numbor of" bookies" appeared to bo doing a fair business on their own account. The Grand Stand was well patronised, au unusually largo number of ladies honoring tho meeting with their presence. During the day music was rendered at intervals by the Featherston Brass Band, Owing to the heavy rain which fell on Friday night, tho couise was heavy and treacherous, but notwithstanding this no accident worth recording occurred, two horses only fulling during the day and in each case neither horse nor rider was at all hurl. The state of the course may perhaps be to blame for tbo fact that the favorites wero in very few instances winners, the dividends being in consequence fairly largo.
