INFANT SCHOOL, The Education Board wrote, stating that tenders for tbo erection of the infant school at Masterton would be called during the present month. ,' TRUANTS, Sergeant M'Ardle forwarded the names of certain absentee children, and stated that many were unable to attend owing to the illness of their parents, In these cases he thought parents were troubled enough without continually having the police at their doors,

Mr Ensthope thought the suggestion of Sergeant M'Ardle quite uncalled for. He would suggest that the Secretary writo to the Sergeant to this effect, Mr Beard reported that two informations had been laid against parents whose children were not' attending school, In one case the parent was fined, and in'tne other the case was withdrawn as a medical certificate of the child's illness wns put in. Mr Jackson (headmaster) remarked that he did not consider the medical certificate referred to the condition of tho child at the time the information was laid. teachers'reports. The headmaster reported the number of names on the roll to he 588, tho averago attendance 442, and the percentage of attendances 74, This, ho stated, was the lowest attendance for some time. The attendance had greatly improved sinco the holidays, thirty fresh scholars, including four Maoris, being present, Miss Keeling reported the number of names on the roll to be 96 and the averago attendance 79, Miss Brown had been absent from the school several days owiog to sickness. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £8 9s 4d were passed (or payment. APOLOGY, Mr Easthope apologised for the absence of Mr G. Heron, CONDITION OF THE SCHOOL, ■ Mr Easthope, as visiting member for the month, reported that the main school badly needed painting, He thought the Education Board should be requested to do the work. Mr Easthope also reported regarding several minor matters, It was resolved to procure two seals for the main school and request the Education Board to paint the building and fences. /DSENTEE LIST. The list of children absenting themselves from school was read, and in four cases the Secretary was instructed to lay informations against parents. ■ The headmaster reported that in several cases where notices had been sent the ohildron were now attending school.

Mr Daniell thought the tknkaof the Ooinmittßß were due to Mr Beard for having conducted the cases which were recently brought on in Court, Mr Beard stated that he was pleased to assist in every way in getting children to attend school. He would [move, "That it be an intimation to parents that in all cases where the attendance of children is not as provided by the Education Aot and a certificate of exemption is not obtained from the Committee, the provisions of the Act to compel attendance at sohool will be striotly enforced." Mr Daniell soconded.—Carried, VISITING MEMBER. The Chairman was appointed visiting member for the month and the meeting adjourned.
