WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Ordinary Meeting.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wairarapa ftorth County Council was held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, there being present Crs W. H. Beetham (Chairman |, Maunsell, Groves, Guild, Smith, CockburnHood and Ton Kedin, MINUTES. ' The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, MAUHICEYILLE POUND. Mr Anderson, ponndkeepor at Mauriceville, wrote, complaining of the muddy condition of the pound and offering to gravel it for the sum of ten shillings. It was resolved on the motion of Or Cockburn-Hood that Mr Anderson be instructed to gravel the pound at the amount stated. county mm. Mr J. C. Ingram wrote, staling that he would act as ranger to the County for the sum of £lO and. driving fees, provided he had power to prosecute offenders. On the motion of Or auild it was deoided to appoint Mr Ingram ranger at the sum stated. HANAWA ROAD. Mr H. Nevins complained of the state of the Manaiva lioad. Tbo matter was referred to the Engineer. A DESTITUTE FAMILY. ■ I The North Wairarapa Benevolent Society wrote, requesting that the Council recognise no orders drawn in favor of Mr Potter, and that cheques due to him be held, as relief was being extended to his family by the Society, '' It was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Olerk to bo dealt with as lie thinks fit.
Or Groves thought if the man did not provide for his family lie should be dismissed from the service of the Council. A NUISANCE. The Clerk of the Masterlon Borough Council wrote, coinplaimog of the nuisance caused by the depositing of offensive matter in the Waipoua River ai the foot of DixoMtreet, The Chairman pointed out that the Council had no destructor, and it would therefore be difficult to deal with the matter. Cr Yon fiedin moved," That the Borough Council be asked to allow their Inspector of Nuisances to lay informations against persons depositing refuse in the river, and that the County Clerk prosecute such offenders."—Carried. TRANSFER OFLIOENSE. A transfer of a slaughtering license from Mr Stillborn to Mr Newcomb was granted. CHARITABLE AID. A printed letter with reference to the establishing of labour colonies to deal with the question of charitable aid, was referred to the conference of local bodies. SHALL BIRDS NUISANCE. A communication was received from the Agricultural Department, suggesting that concerted action be taken by looal bodies lor tho destruction of small birds, The Chairman thought the matter might be referred to the Farmers' Club. Cr Groves said the nuisance was not felt in his part of the district. Cr Von Kedin slated that considerable damage was done by the small birds in grass seed sowing. Cr Guild thought no action should be taken unless on petition of the ratepayers. The matter was held over, HNANOE. The report of the meeting of tlie Finance Committee was read and adopted and accounts passed for payment. engineer's report. The report of the Engineer upon works in progress, and those required in the County, was read and adopted, The Engineer was instructed to put in a crossing at Eketabuna at the expense of Mr Anderson, of the Ekotahuna Hotel, FOOTPATIIS, It was deoided, on the motion of Or Guild, seconded by Cr Smith, that a footpath-be formed from the now bridge across the Waipoua river to tfie top of the rood at Ewington's corner, tho Engineer to call for tenders for (he work when hg considers necessary, TRAVELLING STOCK, Tho Engineer was instructed to fence the approach on the east side of the Ruamahunga river for the convenience of travelling stock, according to the suggestion of Cr Guild, CASTLE HILL ROAD. ' Cr Smith moved that the necessary steps be taken by, the Clerk to take over tbe Castle,.' Hill road. He mentioned that Mr ; tSimpson, surveyor, would be jn the district in a few days and tbe road would be legalised. The Chairman thought it would be advisable in the interests of commnnication to take over the road, Mr Gockburn->Hood seconded the resolution, which was put and carried. VALUATIONS. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Commissioner of Taxes for in*-' formation reaardint; the improved and unimproved value of property in the County. Tbe Council then adjourned.
