Tho first part of the entertainment consisted of an interesting lecture by Mr R. % Rawnsley on his "Travels in thePacifrA illustrated with lime light views. Mr Rawnsley, who has paid frequent visits to the Islands, gave a graphic description of life and habits in Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, keepiog the audience interested and amused throughout., Songs were afterwards rendered by Mr Niohollß and Mrs Leeks, - a couple of humorous recitations'by Mr Rawnsley and a selection by Clifford's String Band, The entortainmenfc, which altogether was the beet of the series, was. brought to a close with the exhibition of a number of views,
The slumbers of Mr Mandel, of Masn terton, were rudely disturbed si few nights ago by a very, un'welcoino bedfellow. Jumping out of bed and striking a light he discovered a Bttange creature lyliicli he captured and in due time landed over to Mr K. Brown for the Maaterton mnaeum. On examination it proved to he a fine male specimen of the Btimmta. ■ Megocephk (orthoptera) commonly known a? the " weta." It is supposed that the intruder came with a Mnl firewood and thus found his way luto the saored precints of Mr Mendel's chamber.
