At a large meeting held at Sydenham to-iiigbt resolutions were unaciDiously adopted that tlio liquor traffic ~ is a prolifio source of crimp, pauperism and other social evilß endßDperinj; tbn future progress and well-being of the Colony and increasing taxation; that the inhabitants of each locality should bB eii)p)Wi!red to veto tho issue and renewal of all licenses for tho sale ol intoxicating liquors in their respective districts, also " That in view of the Bill flow before Parliament proposing ' to establish the principal of paying compensation to publicans for nonrenewal of licenses the meeting expresses its conviction that the pi inciple of compensation is injurious in the highest degrpe, and protests agaiußt ■r it beipg embodied in the polony's 4|r< licensing laws in any shape or form," .
