Mr D. Knight is gazetted a mombor of the Pahiatua Licensing Committee, vice Mr EL Futoher, resigned, Samuel Lyons, who was sentenced to four months imprisonment at Masterton on Ayril 22nd for larceny, has become a lunatic, and is now confined in the Wellington Lunatio Asylum. Mr 0. E. Cornwall, of the local etaff of the Bank of New Zealaud, is about to be transferred to Patea, and will be replaced in Masterton by Mr Jeffreys, of Woodville. Mr Cornwall is a cour. teous officer, and those who havo como into contact with him in banking business will regret his departure. He, too; leaves many personal friends.
There was a good attendance at the weekly session of tho Masterton MoH' Improvement Society last night, wnea the following musical programme was gono through:—Recitation, Mr Steel; Sung, Mr Ascall; b'ong, Mrs Muller; recitation, Mr Johnson, junr.; pianoforte selection, Miss Williama; reading, Mr tiaumber; violin selection, Mr Candy; recitation, Mr F. Vibeit; reading, Mr H. Owon; song, Mr Astall. Tho programme for next week will comprise short essays ( Dr Hosking informs us that coldß aro still very prevalent in Masterton, There is hardly a house which has not been attacked.

At tho Trinity (Jollego Musical Ex* animation, which is taking place to-day, twenty-one candidates have been en* tered at Masterton for tho various Bee tions. Of these, two are pupila of Miss Watson, entered for Junior HonoW; five of Misb Poaraon, for Junior P*; ; and fourteen of Mr A. von Koisenberg, for Intermediate Section, Junior Honours and Pass. Tho Chairman of the School Committee, Mr E, Feiat, has kindly undertaken tho duties of super* visor. .
The health of Sir William Fox has improved, and the doctors attending him consider that he is out oi danger. Mr Hogg is much concerned respecting the domes of the publishers of the Picturesque Atlas, and brought up the matter in the House yesterday. The Hon. Mr Oadman replied that as far as ho could ascertain no magistrates had made representations to the Government on the subject, and he did not therefore think the Government could interfere in the matter.
